Our Honeymoon

We arose at 5 am the morning after our wedding as we had a taxi booked to take us to the airport at 6 am. We had already decided to dress for the occasion by wearing our wedding outfits. When we got to the check in desk at the airport we cheekily asked if there was any possibility of a free upgrade. It was met with stony silence so later we boaded the aircraft and sat at the back. After take off one of the stewards said he had noticed our attire and wondered if we would like a free upgrade. We were taken strainght past the seats with extra leg room to the seats that lay flat into a bed. Champagne was served and we were given a 3 course meal with china plates and proper cutlery.

On landing we met by a chauffer who drove us to our hotel. We had chosen to stay 3 night at the Hilton Hotel in Downtown Disney, Orlando. At reception the receptionist said nothing about our stange attire, but withing minutes of getting to our room a bottle of champagne appeared courtesy of the management.

The next day we decided to visit Animal Kingdom, which was really interesting as there seemed a real enthusiasm amongst the staff to show off the work Disney is doing to protect the environment and help endangered species. On the Monday we decided to shop and vivited a local Mall. It may have been a 20 minute taxi ride away, but took us 4 hours and4 busses to get back, mainly becuase we did not appreciate how big Orlando is.

On Tuesday we were driven down to Fort Lauderdale to join the Sun Princess for our cruise of the Caribbean. When we got to our cabin there were ballons outside the door saying "Just Married" and inside there was a complimentary bottle of champagne a bunch of flowers from the ship and bunch from Roger, Janet, Rob and Claire. Thanks guys. Later when we came back from our evening meal there were chocolate strawberries waiting for us.

Wednesday night we were at sea and it was the first formal night of the cruise. We decided to wear our wedding attire one last time as can be seen from the home page. We enjoyed all the comments we got even though we wern't the only honeymooners on board. We met up with 5 other honeymooners at a reception on board, saw two couples get married on board and two more got off at St Thomas to get married ashore.

On Friday we arrived in Grenada and went on a Land Rover Safari. It was more a journey down a very rough road with vegetation either side, but it ended a beach where I hired a jet ski, before heading back to the ship.

Saturday we arrived in St Lucia and went on a Pirate ship. It was good fun with Rum being served and treasure hunting. Sunday and we were in Grenada and went on a large catamaran. First stop was to go snorkelling, then across the bay to a beach to swim and sun bathe.

On Sunday we were heading North and stopped in Martinique where we visited a Banana plantation. Did you know there are over 1000 varieties of bananas? Well you do now. Next we went to a Rum distillery for a very short talk before sampling the produce.

Tuesday saw us arrive in St Thomas. We has been told the night before that our helicopter ride over the Island had been cancelled due to mechanical problems so settled for a shopping trip instead. We ended up spending more so I wish the helicopter had flown.

Wednesday night we were at sea on our way to Princess Cays, a spit of land in the Bahamas owned by Princess cruises. We spent Thursday on the beach with a barbeque laid on and I went sailing on a Hobie Wave catamaran. I took out friend we had met on board. First up was Acelyn and Douglas from Canada, then Mike (their dad) and Dave from Miami came out with me. Just as we were coming in a catamaran capsized behind us so I went hback and Dave dived in to help the solo sailor.

On Fraday we arrived back in Fort Lauderdale and bade farewell to our fellow passengers before heading to another Mall then on to the airport. Our flight back was very rough as we coausght the tail end of the storms that had hit UK the day before. It certainly seems like we had been away a lot longer that 2 weeks.
